AIChE and ABS Consulting Announce Agreement for
Provision of Security Vulnerability Analysis Training
May 4, 2004
(New York, NY) The American Institute of
Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and ABSG Consulting (ABS Consulting)
are pleased to announce an agreement for ABS Consulting to
deliver the Institute’s short course and certificate
program in Security Vulnerability Analysis (SVA). Under this
agreement, ABS Consulting will present the SVA program in
addition to its broad selection of educational offerings
in the areas of environment, health, safety and security.
AIChE will continue to guide content and the course will
retain its name and expert curricula.
In 2002, AIChE, through its Center for Chemical Process
Safety (CCPS), developed a systematic process for identifying,
analyzing and managing a company’s security vulnerabilities
to avoid catastrophic chemical accidents caused by terrorist
acts. This methodology, CCPS® SVA, has been lauded as
a forerunner on the subject in the chemical and allied industries.
All 140 members of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) have
completed vulnerability assessments for all of their facilities
using either the CCPS SVA methodology or a methodology which
has been determined by CCPS to meet the same criteria. The
CCPS SVA is defined and outlined descriptively in Guidelines
for Analyzing and Managing the Security Vulnerabilities of
Fixed Chemical Sites, published in August 2002 and copyrighted
by AIChE.
AIChE President Bill Byers said, "AIChE has worked
extensively with ABS Consulting in the education services
area, and we are pleased to extend this relationship into
an area that is crucial to industry and the nation at large.
ABS Consulting's educational program has long been regarded
to be of the highest quality standard, and we're pleased
to incorporate our course and certificate program into their
solid program."
"ABS Consulting and AIChE have worked together for over
two decades to improve the safety and security of the chemical
process industry through high quality training programs.
We look forward to helping the industry find practical and
effective means to improve security using the tools and information
provided in AIChE’s SVA course," says ABS Consulting
CEO Frank Iarossi.
AIChE members will continue to benefit from membership
discounts in this course and certificate program, as well
as the extensive course site locations offered by ABS Consulting.
The first offerings are planned for late summer 2004. Please
contact Karen Evans (865-675-2850) or visit www.absconsulting.com (under

SVA or any of the ABS Consulting education courses.
